If anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat

Taken from 2 Thessalonian 3:10b.

One insight that gets me: have I worked enough to eat in the table of Our Lord?

Philipians 2:12b says, "Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling."

Yes, we are called to work in this world, to till and to subdue it, as this is the true intention of St. Paul when he wrote to the Thessalonians. Apparently there are those that has the notion that the Lord will come in a very short time, hence, they refuse to go about their daily life. But as we all know, ~2000 years have passed and he has not come.

Another dimension of this passage: yes, we all are called to do our work, to be a good employee, a good student, etc. But most importantly, we are called for His divine filiation. We are called to be His follower and His sons and daughters. Have we worked enough to be called to eat in the table of Our Lord?

Yes indeed we are yet sinners and we failed. Even the just man falls seven times a day... and rises again (Proverbs 24:16) That's why we are not only called to His table, we are called to His seat of Mercy in the sacrament of confession as well.

So, let us come to His table with the willingness to work on our salvation, on our holiness, on our desire to please Him and Him alone.
